Story 77-02 / 1977 Coupe
I started as a mechanic at Ross Chevrolet in St.Petersburg, FL in 1973 and still work at the same location. I saw my one and only BODY IN PRIME in 1977. We painted car in our body shop. The car was quite the sensation at that time.
Story 77-03 / 1977 Coupe
In 1976 I ordered a 77 model in primer. It was delivered in november to Joseph Chevrolet in Cincinnati Ohio. When it arrived, it had a luggage rack that I did not order. I Told them to remove the rack, repair the holes and paint it. They did not want to do this as I would not be happy with the finished product.

When shipped from the assembly plant, the BODY IN PRIME cars had all emblems, trim, everything in place just like a normally painted car.
One source reports that the BODY IN PRIME cars had two different types of primer – one type for the fiberglass body and another type for the urethane front/rear pieces.

I have run across some earlier cars that were "Spec" when at NCRS meets. I have seen one that was still as delivered...no paint(color). The bumper covers on the '73-up cars were painted, however. They had a silver metallic color on them.

I have worked at a few Chevy dealers over the last 20+ years. I had heard of the Body in Prime cars several times but never actually seen one myself.
