This web site is intended to be an information exchange for the ultra-rare Corvettes built as BODY IN PRIME.
Over 1.4 million Corvettes have been produced since 1953. Less that 300 were shipped from the assembly plant in primer only – BODY IN PRIME on the invoice.

I bought my 1977 (my first Corvette) in 2005. The seller’s ad stated it had a SP paint code. Being unfamiliar with this term, I asked him what it meant. He said the car had a special paint from the factory, but that’s all he knew. I liked the car, no matter what this paint code thing meant, so I bought it.
After purchase, I obtained a copy of the dealer invoice from GM Archives. That is when I saw the car had option code 7D001XA / SPECIAL PAINT – BODY IN PRIME. Further investigation revealed these cars were rare, really rare.
I started attending Corvette shows and advertising for primer only car info via an ad in The NCRS Driveline. At the shows, I was surprised to find out how many Corvette “experts” did not even know these cars exist. Extremely few people have replied to the information-seeking ad. Altogether, I’ve only run across two people who said they actually saw a new Corvette in primer only at a Chevrolet dealer in the 1970’s.
Hopefully, this web site will receive information and stories from those previously or currently owning a BODY IN PRIME car. I also welcome information and stories from anyone who worked at a dealer who received one, knew somebody who had one, or just has a good story about one.
Since this is a new web site, I welcome input as to anything you feel needs to be added or changed.
Thanks,
John
